Sweet Engagement Photos - and a Proposal Caught on Film!

Love when new (to me) photographers introduce me to their work. Shannen Natasha is a faithful reader and sent me this super cute engagement session. She is a photographer in Riverside CA. From Shannen, For their engagements we started out at the bride's house in Riverside, CA. They had an old tandem bike that they wanted to use for some photos...it looked awesome but we were worried it wouldn't even make it through the shoot as it was so old and creaky haha...thankfully it did....just barely ;) We did a few more photos in her parents yard on a swing with some books. The couple has been dating since high school and are set to graduate college in December so all of their dating lives they've been hitting the books...so we thought it to be fitting to include those in their shoot.

We really wanted to go somewhere woodsy so we began driving to Forest Falls...about the lowest spot in the San Bernardino Mountains that you can go that will have pine trees and that rustic romantic atmosphere. Now, I knew Candyce and Daniel wanted to find some stream or something of the sort, but it was September in California and we're in a drought...I was pretty sure we weren't going to find anything more than a trickle. Luckily we had a very very happy finding as we stumbled across this little wading pool. It made the perfect backdrop for the casual 'rustic' pictures they were hoping for. After that we were basically running around using tunnels, the middle of the mountain road, and a pitchfork to set up our last few shots...including an ode to American Gothic.

Oh, and I love this trend I've been seeing more and more of - getting the proposal caught on film! Yep, Shannen managed to capture this moment a few months ago. Love Candyce's reaction - so sweet!

I Heart Polaroid Collages

I heart Polaroids. I just scored one off ebay and I'm so excited to get out and play with it. I stumbled across these Polaroid collages by sicoactiva on design work life the other day. They are so creative, romantic, sweet, and playful. I think something like this would be an awesome way to capture your engagement (or anniversary) session.

I also love the mix of digital with Polaroid I've been seeing some photographers do, such as these two by Stephanie Williams.

And then there is this polaroid heart collage. I need one of these! I think it would be such a fun element to bring into your wedding decor - or to display photos in your house.

Anyone planning on using Polaroids in their wedding?

A Vintage Inspired Photo Shoot with a Kite

Each engagement session photographer Clayton Austin sends me is simply breathtaking and this one is no exception. Although he lives in Texas, Clayton travels to Cali often and was out here last week for a wedding and a bunch of stunning session. Kristina + Daniel found Clayton through Green Wedding Shoes, so it is only natural that I wanted to feature their lovely engagement photographed in San Clemente, CA.

An Engagement Session in the Snow

I've been a huge fan of photographer Katie Stoops of Open Air Photography for some time now, so I was super excited when this perfect engagement session dropped in my inbox this weekend - it is just too perfect for our week of winter inspiration - an engagement session in the snow! I love his bow tie and her red scarf - so adorable. Thanks so much Katie!

An Engagement Session By Jonas Peterson

Sometimes you see the work of a photographer and just fall totally in love with their style and the way they captured those moments. Sometimes, so much that you don't even care if they live on another continent - you just know you found your perfect person. That is exactly what happened to Lauren + Nick when Lauren saw the work of Australian photographer Jonas Peterson on his blog - and I totally understand, his photos are seriously so breathtaking!

Of course, they live in California, but that didn't stop them. Yes, most photographers are willing to travel! If you see someone you love, but they aren't in your hometown, they can still photograph your day. You will need to cover their airfare and lodging, but that is a small price to pay for the amazingness they will capture. I can't wait to see how Jonas captures their wedding next year in San Diego. For today, please enjoy the stunning engagement photos taken in Blackstar Canyon, San Juan Capistrano and Laguna Beach. Thanks to their wedding coordinator Gianna for the heads up!
